Siem Reap, Cambodia Accommoodations

Hello people. Finally I have some time to be able to blog about my most recent trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia.

This post will be regarding the accommodation in Siem Reap.
We had the chance to stay in one guest house and followed by another decent hotel.

Happy Angkor Guest House

This guest house was run by a Cambodian family and the boss is actually a quite young lady maybe on her 30's. This guest house is an award winning guest house by TripAdvisor on 2013.

We took an air-conditioned twin sharing room with one double bed and one single bed. Reservation was made through email and no payment is needed.  The room cost us only USD 12/night where breakfast was excluded. Such a cheap accomodation right?

Wi-fi is available at lobby and some of the rooms. However, we got our room at the far end and located at third floor where Wi-fi is not available there. We really wish that there's Wi-fi in our room! It's okay! We were there for a vacation so basically we should be away from electronic devices as well *trying to hynoptize ourselves* All basic facilities are given and the room was quite comfortable. Both of us slept like logs for the two nights and we had nothing to complain about this guest house! Service is good, friendly and helpful English speaking staff, good tuk tuk driver, and all these made our stay a pleasure ones.

We also rented our old looking and heavy bicycle from the guest house too which cost USD2 per bicycle.

Different local tours are available for booking when you reach there so do not worry much about your itinerary.

As for location wise, if you are looking for a more happening area, please do not choose this area as you will need to walk quite a distance to pub street and night market.

The dining area where backpackers used to chill out in the afternoon with beers and on the right side is the counter for guest house reservation and payment.

This is the lobby where there are computers for public use and you can place your luggage here during check-out day when you are away for tour.

Wooden Angkor Hotel

We spent our third night and fourth night in this more luxury looking Wooden Angkor Hotel. Bought the stay through AirasiaGo during the promo period and our two night stay which includes breakfast and tax cost us only RM228.22. WOW!
The exterior of the building with my girlfriend posing in front of the doorway.
And here's my long body on the walkway. There were a lot of small tiny tadpoles that have just grown up to small tiny frogs. They were hopping here and there on this walkway happily.
Now, that's the picture of me and my only backpack for this trip! Never know I can travel with a backpack only! I will do this more often ;)

Have a look at our cozy room! As the hotel name suggested wooden, everything in the hotel, including tiles, furniture and doors are made of wood! The king sized bed was so comfy with two pillows prepared for each of us.
The toilet row with a bow as decoration.
The washroom is so clean with a bathtub and daily replenished hair shampoo, conditioner and body shower gel stored in wooden casing.

The hotel's breakfast is available starting from 6.30am in the morning.
There is a list of six breakfasts in the menu for you to choose from. The food is quite good,  accompanied with some fruits as appetizers and refillable coffee or tea as beverages.

We enjoyed our stay here very much because the service is good and fluent English speaking staff who's is watching Lucy- the movie to improve his English.
They even have massage in the hotel and the price is the same as BT massage that we went. However, this service is only available until 10pm which we failed to have our last massage the night before we left.

This hotel has a better location compared to the guest house as 10minutes walk to pub street and night market is possible.

Not forgetting to tell you that this hotel is also featured in the recommendation by TripAdvisor on 2014.

Here's some information regarding travelling in Siem Reap:
1) Currency: the favourable currency is USD, USD is used when the price of goods is above USD 1, they will give you Riel's when they give you small changes that is below USD 1.
During Nov 2014, the rate is USD 1=4000 Riels.

2) Part of the airport is under renovation during Nov 2014. Nothing to shout about for the airport as it is so smalllllll! The only thing to complain is that during check in for departure, the staff asked for tips where I paid the balance Riels that I have in my purse to him as I'm worried that I would not be able to pass the custom smoothly.
I will not pay them a single cent the next time during my departure!

3) Most of the hotels do have the service to pick u up from the airport. The usual fee is only USD 2.

4) Cycling is the easiest and cheapest transport in Siem Reap where you can go anywhere on your own pace. If possible, get an electric bicycle to go for your Angkor Wat tour if you don't have a good stamina.

5) Bring some antibiotics and diarrhoea medications with you as traveller's diarrhoea is common. However, my girlfriend and I never had this diarrhoea problem during our tour.

6) Street food is awesome. Fruit shake is cheap enough. Beer and cocktails are cheap till your jaw drops. Blue Pumpkin's ice-cream is a must try!
